Dendrochronology: Tree-ring Dating

kit #52

This engaging kit provides students the opportunity to develop a basic knowledge of dendrochronology using specially designed simulated tree cores.

Students investigate the important effects of climate on living things as they use tree rings to determine the age of trees and estimate the climate of past years.

Using carefully designed materials, students will:
• Determine the age of the trees
• Compare wet and dry years and attempt to relate them to chronological events in their lives
• Attempt to establish the year when a piece of lumber was cut and when it started growing
• Develop a better understanding of tree-ring dating principles

Accommodates unlimited classes, each with 12 groups of two students.

$69.95

This activity is recommended for grade 5 through college and the kit provides enough reusable materials for 12 pairs of students.
