•Elements are the simplest substances. There are 118 known elements.
•The smallest unit of an element is an atom. Each element has a unique atom with unique properties.
•Atoms can combine, or bond, with one another to form bigger particles called molecules and compounds that can have from two to thousands of atoms.
•Use models to describe unobservable mechanisms.
•Develop models to describe the atomic composition of simple molecules.
