HIV And STD Transmission And Control (A Simulation)

Kit #3
HIV And STD Transmission And Control (A Simulation)

Disease transmission is an important concept for all to understand. It is especially important for teens, an age group particularly at risk for several serious sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as HIV, Hepatitis B, gonorrhea, syphilis, and herpes. In the first activity, students simulate how communicable diseases can be spread through the exchange of body fluids and use the process of contact tracing to determine “patient zero.” In the second activity, students first explore how petroleum jelly impacts the robustness of latex barriers, such as condoms. They also observe how some fragrances can diffuse through latex and relate this to molecular size.
