These simple questions could lead to a deeper exploration of sustainability, like: What are the consquences of this phenomenon for the raccoon population, the biodiversity in the this ecosystem, and the people in the area.
In Science and Global Issues: Biology, students explore issues like these, ranging from the use of natural resources to strategies for imporving human health. Evidence-rich scenarios show the interconnectedness of the biological sciences and their relationship to local, regional, and global sustainability. As you consider key contemporary issues, you will practice decision-making skills vital to your own future and the futures of our local and global communities.

Content in Science and Global Issues: Biology | NGSS is organized into 5 units, as follows:
Sustainability: Changing Human Impact
Unit issue: The ways that humans interact with the environment can cause dramatic changes over time.
Overarching question: How do humans affect the environment over time?
5-9 periods (1-2 weeks)
Ecology: Living on Earth
Unit issue: People rely on natural resources, including fish, for many reasons, including food, yet many fisheries are no longer sustainable.
Overarching question: How can we use our knowledge about ecology to make informed decisions about managing fisheries to be more sustainable?
33-38 periods (7-8 weeks)
Cells: Improving Global Health
Unit issue: Human health is increasingly subject to emerging global patterns, including extreme heat events, changes in the frequency of disease, and climate effects on the food supply.
Overarching question: What are the challenges to human health in a changing world?
31-42 periods (6-8 weeks)
Genetics: Feeding the World
Unit issue: People rely on genetically engineered crop plants to maintain a global food supply, but the use of this technology can impact sustainability.
Overarching question: How do genetically engineered crops affect the sustainability of food production?
23-34 periods (5-7 weeks)
Evolution: Managing Change
Unit issue: Human activity can have evolutionary consequences for both biodiversity and ourselves.
Overarching question: How do human activities affect the evolution of other species, and what are the consequences for both biodiversity and for ourselves?

Equipment for all Curriculum Activities
Includes a mobile storage cart and a complete set of equipment, organized in drawers, for the full year program. Our complete equipment package includes everything needed for every activity - for up to 5 classes of 32 students.
Online Teacher Portal License
Online Teacher Portal access for one teacher for 7 years, which includes: Spanish supports, LABsent videos, slide decks, Teacher Edition, Teacher Resources, Student Book, and supplemental resources.

Additional $99.95 per book
Hardbound, high-quality student books are designed to last the length of an adoption for use year after year. Unlike a traditional texbook, the Student Book does not provide science content through reading and questions alone. Instead students are encouraged to question, investigate, and analyze in each of the heavily field-tested activities.
Online Student Portal License

The online student portal is optional but highly recommended. Here students will find access to Remote Learning Activities in case of an absence, support tools like ReadSpeaker with translation, and can have direct communication with the teacher (for schools who want this feature).
