Students test their own blood to determine which of the four major human blood types it is: A, B, AB, or O. (Note: Blood types determined by this activity may not always be accurate.) They learn that different blood types result from the presence or absence of specific molecules in the blood called agglutinins and that the factors that determine a person’s blood type are inherited.
