Properties of Acids and Bases Experiment

Kit #82

In this activity, students observe various acid and base reactions. They observe the effect of acids and bases on the chemical indicators litmus and phenolphthalein. They also observe that not all metals react equally with acids and not all acids, even those with the same concentration, react equally with metals. Students also collect and identify the gas produced when an acid reacts with a carbonate and perform a simple titration to determine the concentration of an unknown solution.
